University Scholars Recommendation Form

All recommendations are due by 4:00 pm on Thursday, September 21, 2017. If you are unable to complete an online recommendation, please contact the University Honors Program at 864-4225.

Note: All applicants waive their right to view recommendations per Honors Program Policy.

To the Recommender:  The above student is applying to become a University Scholar.  A similar recommendation form accompanies the application for the Global Scholars Program coordinated by International Program.  Please be aware that students can apply for only one of these programs.

Recommendations are due by 4:00pm, Thursday, September 21st. Formal letters are not required.

The University Scholars Program at the University of Kansas is designed to recognize and encourage its most academically talented and motivated undergraduate students who have demonstrated intellectual achievement and curiosity. Students are selected in a competitive process.  Through interdisciplinary coursework, mentorship, student networks, and research experience, the program provides a cohort of students with opportunities to develop their intellectual capabilities and interests to the fullest and better prepares them for careers, further study, and leadership roles in today’s complex society.  The University Scholars Program is coordinated by the University Honors Program.

University Scholars attend a special seminar class in the spring and are matched with a faculty mentor.  The Spring 2018 University Scholars seminar will be taught by Professor David Roediger (American Studies) on the topic "Herman Melville’s America: Studying Inequality, Literature, and History."

The selection is highly competitive.  Each year only 20 sophomores are chosen.  The selection committee would appreciate your frank assessment of the student.  We appreciate your assistance with the following questions:
